Vic Willems (NL)

From a young age, Vic Willems has captured his life in songs. What began with an acoustic guitar has now evolved into an extensive music career in which he creates full arrangements and productions both for himself and for others. Willems' songs are intimate, sharp, and disarming, and his lyrics describe various scenes from his life: from a sunny day with friends and the feeling of slowly becoming invisible, to saying goodbye to a loved one. To his own amazement, Willems won the Grote Prijs van Nederland in 2016 after completing his master's in Psychology. Since then, he has had an impressive musical journey. For his first EP, he collaborated with British songwriter Fink. The renowned Excelsior Recordings released his first two critically acclaimed albums. For the third album, "Meester Van Niks," Willems sought new collaborations, including with the leading producer Rijnbaart. In this collaboration, Willems' DIY home recordings are elevated to challenging heights; the album almost bursts with stimulating experimentation, yet it manages to tell a poignant story about letting go of what you cannot hold onto and embracing emptiness. In addition to his own musical projects, Willems has a talent for supporting other artists. It is quite possible that you have already heard his work without realising it, as his lyrics and productions have been used in songs by Linde Schöne, De Club van Sinterklaas, Cero Ismael, and Wulf.
